The North Patagonian Icecap is the fifth largest icecap in the world, and is located in Chile, South America. Mike O Shea and Clare O Leary are believed to be the first Irish to have competed this crossing , and only a handful of teams internationally have ever completed this expedition.

The expedition includes horse riding, boating crossings , ice climbing , sled pulling and hauling of huge loads in excess of 80kg across some of the most inhospitable terrain in the world. Patagonia is known for having some of the harshest weather known to man , with the team  facing 100 mile per hour winds , blizzard conditions and torrential rain.

Mike and Clare were joined by Norwegians Bengt Rotmo and Elin Harestad , unfortunately losing fellow Irish team member Bill Hanlon due to injury early in the expedition.  Mike and Clare earlier this year attempted to become the first Irish team to talk to the North Pole , but were unsuccessful due to logistical difficulties.
